If dining at Atelier is on your bucket list of culinary adventures, then you might want to make sure you know its exact address: 540 Rochester Street. You see, there’s no sign posted outside this highly regarded restaurant, located in the Little Italy district and owned by chef Marc Lepine, a two-time winner of the Canadian Culinary Championships held in Kelowna, B.C.

It was here, into this understated building, that a sold-out crowd of 54 entered on Tuesday for the Black and White Soirée for the Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra. The original idea was to have live music paired with the “13”-course dinner but that plan was scrapped due to insufficient space for artists to perform in.

The $300-a-ticket dinner (with a $150 tax receipt) incorporated some music into the menu. The first course came with bars of musical notes made from red beets while the dessert proved to be a voice-altering experience with edible helium-filled balloons.
